Merry Christmas!

Snowboarding Bear Flies Too Close to the Red Sun

Kim and I would like to wish all of you a Merry Christmas!

We’re going to be doing the Dundas-Ajax-Oakville whirlwind tour over the next couple of days in order to visit with as much family as possible.

Then it’s off to Mt. Tremblant for some much deserved skiing and snowboarding.

Have a safe and happy holiday and we’ll catch up with you in the new year!

Meet the Parents, Our Photographers

Jamie and Rosanne Parent are going to be our photographers.  They are not only our photographers, but also good friends.  I worked with Jamie a couple of years ago at 3DNA and have kept in touch since then. The last name Parent suits this couple well, as they have seven beautiful children.

The Parents recently launched their new photography website called Photocaptiva.  Be sure to check it out. Their art is fantastic.  Rosanne has a very creative eye and captures the moment from a unique perspective every time.  Jamie is very technical and seems to enjoy developing his shots.  We are very grateful to have them taking our pictures.  The care and professionalism that both Jamie and Rosanne exude is refreshing.  It has become clear to us that having people we know and trust is going to make a big difference in our pictures.

We spent the day with Jamie and Rosanne this past weekend so that Rosanne and Kim could meet each other and for everyone to get familiar with the surroundings we will be in on the big day.  We had a great day, and there is an entire album of stunning pictures as a result.  We spent a few hours at Deer Creek walking the grounds and the halls.  It was sunny and beautiful outside and although bright sun is not a photographer’s preferred lighting, Jamie and Rosie took advantage of it and shot great engagement photos for us.

Jamie and Rosie also have great ideas for wedding day photos.  We can’t wait to see how those turn out.

Engagement Photos

And Now a Word From the Maid of Honour

When I heard of Kim and Derek’s engagement, I think that I almost started to cry!!  I was so happy for them and SO excited for the actual wedding!!  I had a permanent smile on my face while listening to the story of that amazing moment between the two of them, I think that my heart melted… (kudos to Derek).  I have never known of two people more perfect for each other than Kim and Derek.  The kind of love and respect that they have for each other is truly amazing and something that everyone should hope to have one day.  I am thrilled that both Kim and Derek asked me to be a part of their special day. I have known Kim for over 10 years and she has been the best friend that anyone could ever ask for.  When she asked me to be her Maid of Honour, I swear I almost leaped across the table and kissed her!!!!

Within hours, I was on the internet googling ANYTHING and EVERYTHING possibly related to weddings.   I am taking this MOH thing serious and thought that I would brush up on the responsibilities and duties that I would have to do.  But, I have discovered over the last few weeks, that Kim and Derek are two of the most organized people I will EVER meet.  I have no doubt in my mind that I will not have to deal with any “Bridezilla” issues… (boy, did I ever luck out :)).

I think that Kim has picked a great group of ladies to stand beside her and share in her special day.  We all have amazing relationships with Kim and wish her nothing but the best.  With so many great friends, we should be able to treat Kim to some fun “remember when stories” over the next few months.

The count down is on… I am soooooo excited.

Our Mail Slot Runneth Over

Words of Encouragement

Thanks to everyone for the support!

No, It’s Not a Shotgun Wedding

Apparently when people first hear that we got engaged and planned to get married in 7 months, a common question pops to mind.

So let me put that question to rest: no, she’s not pregnant.

… I wish.

Let Them Eat Their Choice of Chocolate Cake or Cheesecake

We chose Just Temptations to create our cake for us based on the cake a friend and colleague of mine had at her wedding.  It was beautiful, delicious and affordable as far as wedding cakes go.  As anyone who has had a wedding will know, put the word “wedding” in front of it, whatever it may be, and the price goes up 30%.

In terms of design, we had some idea of what we wanted.  After looking through about a thousand pictures and in-store models of cakes we decided we liked parts of various cakes.  Luckily Just Temptations creates custom designed cakes.  We were able to give a few specific details and they will take it from there.  I don’t want to give away all of the details, but the theme is black and white.

I didn’t realize that cheesecake would be an option, but it is and it’s aweome!  It’s my favorite.  So two tiers will be lemon cheesecake, and two will be chocolate buttercream.  Who doesn’t like chocolate?

I can’t wait…I’ll be having one of each flavor because seriously, how many days can I have my cake and eat it too?

Deer Creek, Where We’re Getting Married

Last week, Kim and I took her parents and maid of honour to see the place we have chosen to get married, Deer Creek. It’s a golf and country club out in Ajax, Ontario. Pictured above is where our outdoor ceremony will be held (weather permitting of course).

If the weather turns nasty on us, we’ll be bringing the ceremony into the reception hall, which is conveniently just a stone’s throw away. The reception hall also comes with a balcony that overlooks a pond.

We picked this location because it is beautiful and convenient for a lot of our family. It also allows us to have the ceremony and reception at the same place.

My Girls

I have chosen my bridal party, and they have all accepted…whew.  I feel grateful that everyone was excited to be part of our day.

Erica is my maid of honour.  We have been friends since ninth grade, so to me she was the obvious choice for this job. I know she’ll be perfect.

The bridesmaid’s are Johanna, Jennifer and Amy.  Johanna, my soon to be sister-in-law, has been a great friend for nearly as long as I’ve known her brother.  In terms of quality, Jen’s friendship is top of the line.  I’m thankful that she and her family are part of our lives.  Amy is a long time friend, and is the reason Derek and I met in the first place – thanks Amy!

I will also have two princesses leading the way down the aisle: Alexia and Karylton.  Alexia is my beautiful 9 year old cousin, and Karylton is the only 3 year old I know that can sit still for a mani/pedi – how could I not choose these two girls to start the ceremony.

I am very much looking forward to having these wonderful ladies by my side.
